Egypt ponders bill to copyright the pyramids

I guess if you get royalties from everything, then it makes you similar to THE MUSIC INDUSTRY. What a bad influence. This has got to be one of the dumbest things I've ever heard of since the state of Kentucky copyrighted "Kentucky". There. I used it. Sue me! I have nothing. What the hell is the world coming to.

Another Federal Election? Why?

Stephan Dion wants Canadians to go to the polls again. Dummy.

"I'm told that your best day in the Opposition is not as good as your
worst day in the government," he quipped in a CBC News report.
I think you've been mislead, Steph. More like, your job is what you
make it. It helps if you can do the job at all.

"The ones who succeed - and I intend to be one of them - have
never had a free lunch, never."
What about your free ride to Liberal Leadership? You don't think
you actually won that do you? I think they just needed somebody to
"act" as leader and take all the heat and criticism after those
tumultuous years of being a corrupt political party who has never
really had to answer for what they did.

After only two years in office, with the economy booming and
unemployment near record lows, Dion said the Tories should be above
40 per cent in the polls. They aren't enjoying a honeymoon, he
contended, because Canadians simply don't trust them.
Nope, wrong again. It just proves that beer swilling, pot smoking,
hockey watching "sheep" don't pay any attention to Federal politics.
And that's just the way you like it.

J.K. Rowlings: Dumbledore is Gay

This has got to be the biggest bunch of crap I have ever heard. Just because
it's trendy, you have to have a gay person in your novel, who obviously
wasn't gay. And these people applaud her. If it was truly her intentions and
her conviction on it, she would have made it clear from the start instead of
bringing this up now. I wonder how many mothers would have read these books
to their children then?
Just another instance where the gay community is being mislead, humiliated,
and exploited, all at the same time.

Vote for me ???

I never thought that election candidates would want to just disregard anyone they may come in contact with, directly or indirectly. Every person is potential vote, right?

John Wilkinson is the Liberal Party candidate for the Perth-Wellington electoral district in Ontario's upcoming election. I case you haven't heard it's on October the 10th. This happens to be the riding where I reside.

At about 8pm this evening I got a phone call. The caller ID displayed the familiar "Unknown name" and gave a Toronto area telephone number. Figuring it was a 50-50 chance at being a telemarketer or possibly something of substantial importance, I answered the phone. When you have to say hello twice, you know what you're in for. Another damn telemarketer. I waited for the usual spiel after receiving the "Hello?" that you get from a telemarketer (they are usually surprised someone answered the call), but then I was informed that the voice on the line was calling on behalf of the local Liberal Party Candidate and would I offer him my support at the upcoming provincial election. I pondered this for a millisecond and then stated, "Well, I really don't know much about him". I was going to continue with I can't offer support to someone I know nothing about, when I immediately got "So you're not voting?" I responded "No..." intending to continue with my though about issue of knowledge before support, when the voice continued ... "Um, well..." there was a brief pause and then, "Oh well, you're not voting, so never mind. Thank you." What else could I say but "Goodbye".

I guess I'll never get to hear from the Wilkinson Campaign where I can find out about him. But I did go looking for myself. And I guess I'm "not voting" the way Wilkinson might like me to vote, because even after being contacted by his campaign people and looking over his website, I'm not encouraged to vote at all.

I will vote, because I believe that I should, but not by any help from the Liberal Party.

Canada is Still a Safe Haven

Well....
Canada still harbours war criminals in it's borders. It's sad when a person who who is declared a war criminal by another country is given permanent resident status here.

Leon Mugesera has been in Canada since fleeing Rwanda in December 1992.

Government lawyers fought for 10 years to have Leon Mugesera kicked out of Canada, arguing that in a November 1992 speech, he incited fellow Hutus to kill Tutsis and set the scene for the 1994 slaughter in the African country.

His lawyer said Mugesera wil be either killed or tortured if he returns to Rwanda. That's called Karma.

It was ordered by the Supreme Court in June 2005 that he be deported. Yet he and several of his associates from the Rwandan genocide continue to live free in Canada. Rwandan prosecutors have asked for their extradition. Why has this not happened? As usual, Investigators with the Canadian war crimes unit and federal officials declined to comment to the CBC about this.

At least Leon decided to lose the "Huggy Bear" pimp look over the years.

Congratulations, Steven Truscott

Steven Truscott was today acquitted in the rape and murder of 12 year old Lynne Harper that occurred 48 years ago.
http://www.cbc.ca/canada/story/2007/08/28/truscott-reaction.html

This doesn't mean he didn't do it though. Even O.J. Simpson was found not guilty. I haven't followed this story as intently as I had meant to. I wish I knew more and I think I'll be reading for some time yet, however I feel that there was a "miscarriage of justice". And that miscarriage of justice may have occurred today.

I will try to make time to read the report. It is very easy to pick apart every single bit of evidence as the piece that is needed to convict. But when you take the sum of all the parts, including circumstantial evidence, it makes the case more compelling.

I just hope that the Canadian Justice System isn't worse today than it is alleged to have been in 1959.

Girl, 8, tells court of anger at street racers

Parents killed in May 2006 crash
Last Updated: Wednesday, August 22, 2007 | 4:24 PM ET

http://www.cbc.ca/canada/toronto/story/2007/08/22/street-racing-trial.html

Eight-year-old Katie Manchester walked confidently to the front of a Newmarket courtroom Wednesday and told a sentencing hearing she was "mad" at the street racers who killed her parents in May 2006... Dressed in pink and carrying a stuffed animal, the second grade student spoke about the loss of her parents. Since the accident, she has lived with relatives in Aurora.

Rob and Lisa Manchester and their daughter Katie

----------

If only the street racers were as brave. Their defence lawyer is seeking a sentence of "house arrest and community service". This is Canada, so they'll likely get it. It's perfectly okay here to kill people when you're "remorseful and young". As far as I'm concerned the 2 year sentence the Crown is looking for is too light.

CMA calls for help with catastrophic drug costs

Wednesday, August 22, 2007

ml

The Canadian Medical Association called on governments Wednesday to bring in programs to cover catastrophic drug costs. Dr. Scott Cameron, the P.E.I. delegate who introduced the resolution, said the program should cover prescription drug costs that exceed three per cent of a family's after-tax income. He noted that in Atlantic Canada 25 per cent of the population doesn't have prescription drug coverage.
----------
Maybe, big business drug companies shouldn't gouge people for prescriptions and then everyone could be healthy, including everyone's wallet.

North American leaders end summit with pact on import safety

The leaders of Canada, the United States and Mexico ended a two-day summit in Quebec Tuesday with a pledge to crack down on unsafe goods flowing into North America, while working to make the two borders more efficient and secure.
----------
Okay. Now maybe we should start to promote a made in North America approach to solving the problem and tell big business no more Chinese outsourcing.
