Having Said That.....

This was nominated for best joke of the year - worth sharing.

A  Somali arrives in Vancouver as a  new immigrant to Canada .  He  stops the first person he sees walking down the street and says  ... 'Thank you Mr. Canadian for letting me in this country, giving me
housing,  money for food, free  medical care, free education and no taxes!'

The passerby says, 'You are mistaken, I am  Mexican.'

The  man goes on and encounters another passerby. ' Thank you for having such a  beautiful country here in Canada !'
The person says, 'I not Canadian, I Vietnamese.'

The  new arrival walks further, and the next person he sees he stops, shakes his hand  and says, 'Thank you for the wonderful Canada !'
That person puts up his hand  and says, 'I am from Middle East , I am not Canadian !'
He  finally sees a nice lady and asks, 'Are you a Canadian ?'
She says , 'No, I am  from Africa !'
Puzzled, he asks her, 'Where are all the  Canadians ?'
The  African lady checks her watch and says ...'Probably at  work'

Who is a Canadian?

An Australian Definition of a Canadian

In case anyone asks you who a Canadian is . . .
You probably missed it in the local news, but there was a report that someone in Pakistan had advertised in a newspaper an offer of a reward to anyone who killed a Canadian - any Canadian..
An Australian dentist wrote the following editorial to help define what a Canadian is, so they would know one when they found one.

A Canadian can be English, or French, or Italian, Irish, German,  Spanish, Polish, Russian or Greek. A Canadian can be Mexican,  African, Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Australian, Iranian, Asian, Arab, Pakistani or Afghan.
A Canadian may also be a Cree, Métis, Mohawk, Blackfoot, Sioux, or one of the many other tribes known as native Canadians. A Canadian's religious beliefs range from Christian, Jewish, Buddhist, Muslim,  Hindu or none.   In fact, there are more Muslims in Canada than in Afghanistan. The key difference is that in Canada they are free to worship as each of them chooses. Whether they have a religion or no religion, each Canadian ultimately answers only to God, not to the government, or to armed thugs claiming to speak for the government and for God.
A Canadian lives in one of the most prosperous lands in the history of the world. The root of that prosperity can be found in the Charter of Rights and Freedoms which recognize the right of each  person to the pursuit of happiness.
A Canadian is generous and Canadians have helped out just about every other nation in the world in their time of need, never asking a thing in return. Canadians welcome the best of everything, the best products, the best books, the best music, the best food, the best services and the best minds. But they also welcome the least -  the oppressed, the outcast and the rejected.
These are the people who built Canada . You can try to kill a Canadian if you must as other blood-thirsty tyrants in the world have tried but in doing so you could just be killing a relative or a neighbour. This is because Canadians are not a particular people from a particular place.  They are the embodiment of the human spirit of freedom.   Everyone who holds to that spirit, everywhere, can be a Canadian.

What needs to be done 2 ?

CBC has a video report of the dog attack incident. So I guess it's a little more than a small story and that's it. But really, it's just a small story and that's it.

This seems like a very serious problem in Canoe Lake. And it needs a serious response that remains to be seen.

What needs to be done ??

This should be a bloody outrage! But it won't be. A small article on the website - it was almost the last news article in the CBC News email I got this morning. It was after the cellphone ban and the renovation tax stuff. Not only are this of this nature ignored by Canadians, because it doesn't directly effect them it doesn't even get front page or top "billing".

Something needs to be done about this situation. Children should not needlessly die horrible deaths that can be prevented. And this would have been a horrible death.

My sincere condolences to the Iron family and the child's relatives over this tragic event. I truly wish someone could have done something to prevent this.

CBC News Website is Just Crap

Well. I finally had enough of it.

The reporting wasn't too bad. Maybe a bit of a bias on some things. But it was tolerable.

But the comments sections for each story? Well thats just a place where anything may happen. It seems like a great idea. Giving a group of people a national forum for each of them to have their say and express their opinion on currents events could be very worthwhile. Could be. One would think that public participation would enhance the experience. That the interaction may have a positive effect on the greater good.

But not on CBC.ca. What a place. I don't think I've seen one story that I didn't look at the comments area and become either agitated with comments or disgusted with people. And usually my anguish and distaste was from a comment that someone posted because of their anguish or distaste at another persons comment. And the comments would sometimes go on and on, and back and forth, and continue in a repetative cycle that just sucked in more people to comment. It's a very negative world. A very negative MODERATED world.

Of course there are the more civil souls who pass some very insightful, considerate, and heartfelt comments. But these are quickly lost in the myriad of overwhelmingly thoughless and selfish criticisms that are passed by majority of users there.

So I've had enough. It's off my blog and off my website. Never to return. CTV here I come. I'll read and watch your news - devoid of the vicarious analytical judgements and usual crap of the people who frequent what is, CBC.ca.
